At Health Counts we have decades of experience in treating PCOS patients. Some of our staff have the condition themselves so we know what it’s like to live with this condition. It can be seriously debilitating in many ways from causing excess hair growth in areas like the face, neck, chest and in fact all over the body. Its also prone to causing acneic type skin problems and these are both issues that we at Health Counts can help you sort out using our portfolio of different lasers.
Its good to see that finally, PCOS has now been globally acknowledged as a much wider syndrome – and to reflect that, its now been renamed PMOS. This suggests to us that it’s being taken more seriously, as it SHOULD be. PMOS stands for Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome. This change was made to better show that it is a systemic hormonal and metabolic disorder rather than just a reproductive or ovarian issue.
Previously known as PCOS, this is the most common endocrine disorder affecting 1 in 8 women worldwide.
- The Name Change: An international global consensus changed the name to eliminate the misconception that the condition is defined by ovarian cysts. The spots on the ovaries are actually undeveloped follicles.
- Symptoms: Irregular periods, difficulty ovulating, excess facial or body hair (hirsutism), adult acne, weight management challenges, and chronic fatigue.
- Long-term Risks: It is a lifelong, multisystem condition that can affect mental health and increase the risk of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and fatty liver disease
